While the personal computer (PC) refresh is getting started, VITA continues to focus on the information technology infrastructure service program (ITISP) milestones.

Contract milestones due March 1 are associated with the multisourcing services environment and will have minimal direct impact on agencies. VITA is working with the multisourcing service integrator (MSI) on the following:
  • Standing up tools
  • Integrating suppliers
  • Improving request management
  • Improving the configuration management database (CMDB)
  • Addressing challenges with the information technology (IT) financial management program
  • Ensuring VITA architecture reviews are completed
  • Completing system security plans
While progress is being made, there are some important challenges that must be overcome.

The more significant impact on agencies comes July 1 when services are enhanced and new services added.

This effort to move from one long-term supplier to the new multisourced environment began nearly four years ago. The process has been time-consuming and complex. However, it’s important to note the end goals for these efforts: IT service delivery quality, ease of doing business; flexibility; agency choice; and, service and spend
transparency. It’s a new era in IT for the commonwealth.

Supplier updates

MSI focusing on commencement readiness
The MSI – Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) – is currently pressing to meet commencement deliverables required by its contract. VITA staff, including the chief information officer and service leads, will meet this week for a commencement readiness review. Commencement means the MSI has satisfied requirements of its contract with VITA.

SAIC has assumed the day-to-day operations of the service portfolio and life cycle management (SPLM) process, which manages the life of an IT service from initiation and aligning business strategy, through the design and delivery of the IT service, to its ongoing operation and support through the retirement of the service. VITA will serve in an oversight role. Sessions were held with suppliers and service owners to share information on the process and discuss specific requirements for each phase.
